Not Fair, a poem

NOT FAIR

Some tell me 'Life's not fair.'
I say 'So let's fix it.'
But when offered a plan
They are bound to nix it.
'It's always been this way,'
they claim, 'and we won't change.
Familiar misery
is better than new and strange!'

'It's how our parents lived
And theirs before them, too;
Life wasn't fair then, either,
There's nothing you can do.'
I guess that we must leave it
All up in the air;
We'll keep on as we have,
For life is not fair.
